GREEN SPACE IN A MULTI-FAMILY DEVELOPMENT – BAD MALENTE

The project site lies in the German municipality of Bad Malente. This picturesque spa town with two lakes, Kellersee and Dieksee, in close proximity. The project is located outside the center of Bad Malente, between the shore of Lake Dieksee and a vast beech forest.

The designed greenery corresponds with the local landscape (forest, lakes, farmland). The selected species are native. The greenery was designed to be an extension of the adjacent forest and to be attractive to local animals (birds, squirrels, hedgehogs), diverse, changing with the seasons, and easy to maintain later.

The greenery composition has been designed in a cul-de-sac fashion. Elevated terrain reveals numerous garden interiors and reduces noise inside the development. The traffic layout determines the division into functional zones such as a playground, an exercise zone with an outdoor gym, a relaxation zone, and a picnic zone with a fireplace, which are provided for different users. Traffic routes are highlighted with accents of flowering greenery.

The materials used in the project are natural raw materials with subdued colors (wood, bark, wood chips). Elements of small architecture, playground, outdoor gym, relaxation zone and picnic area are made of wood and emphasize the forest character of the establishment. Benches, trash garbage cans, stands and hammocks have modern and minimalist forms.

Greenery in pots has been integrated into the northern elevation of the main building so that it is an extension of the garden.
