GREEN IN A MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT – SKOWRONIA

The development site is located in the southern part of Krakow, in the historic district of Podgórze. In the immediate vicinity are single-family houses, which makes it a quiet and peaceful place perfect for living, working and recreation. In the immediate vicinity there is no shortage of various green areas, which are perfect for walks, meetings and active recreation.

The main idea behind the greenery design was to create an attractive, legible, coherent composition, referring to the previous stages of the project. Most of the designed area consists of tenants’ gardens. Common areas were designed in the form of green islands located in the courtyards of buildings located in the western part of the area under study. The greenery design provides for the introduction of both high greenery in the form of flowering deciduous trees and low greenery such as deciduous shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, climbers and bulbous plants. The tall greenery consists of plantings in the form of rows of trees. Deciduous shrubs are located mainly on designed slopes and in the form of hedges separating tenant gardens from common areas. Compositions of perennials and ornamental grasses supplemented by plantings of solitary shrubs are located on patios of buildings.

The plant material used in the project is characterized by great diversity. It is attractive due to its habit, color of leaves, flowers, bark and stems. The juxtaposed species are characterized by different flowering and fruiting seasons. Some of the greenery is made up of evergreen plants. The designed greenery is an additional aesthetic element in the designed space, improves the climate, reduces noise, provides protection from wind and sun, and is a source of food and shelter for animals.
